Castroville Cafe: Reviews & Ratings
Adorable little cafe. I had a special seasonal strawberry salad with grilled chicken and it was marvelous. The wait, I have to say, was problematic. We stopped amidst a very long drive from San Antonio to Terlingua and this was not a good choice for a "quick stop." Our visit probably took more than an hour and a half. Again, fantastic food, just not very quick. And that may be a staffing issue, since that's happening everywhere these days. Anyway, thanks for a great meal at a memorable place.
Every time we come here it’s amazing! Best food in Castroville and excellent service! They accommodated my picky kids and my small dog with some ice water on the front porch.
Great place in Castroville for a sit-down lunch. Meatloaf with brown gravy, mashed potatoes, and vegetables are delicious. Meatloaf is moist and flavorful with the gravy. Vegetables are sautéed with butter. Mashed potatoes are creamy. The Schnitzel was breaded pork cutlet and tender. Bread was a little too toasted as the hard crust cut the inside of my mouth but it was tasty. Pasta salad was a little bland. Sliders came with thick patties and cooked just right. Very filling. Beautiful old home converted into a restaurant. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and polite. We will definitely return.
Always great food, awesome atmosphere and the amazing customer service. Highly recommend this place if your looking for comfort food and making new friends.
It was my second time going to the Castroville Cafe. This time around, they had a sign on the door that said they were short staffed and had a limited menu. When we were seated, we found out they were not serving any hot sandwiches. Servers were very polite, but it did take a little while to get our food and drink refills. While we were eating, a table behind us got up and left because they had not been served yet. It was super busy. The food was very good, and we will definitely be back in the next few weeks. Hopefully, they figure out their man power issues by then.
Waited to be seated while 2 servers walked by and not acknowledge us. A little greeting would have been nice. Once we sat at our table, the “drink” server took our order. She said our other server would be out to take our “food” order. Very nice young girl took that order. Now the waiting begins. The food took a while to come out that when it did , the soup was lukewarm. Our hot dishes that we ordered were cold almost. The food is overpriced for what you get. Very nice ambiance and historic little place.
We stumbled across the Cafe while touring Castroville on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Our lunch menu meals were delicious and the service was attentive and pleasant. Our Spinach, Bacon & Mushroom Quiche was made with care and talent. (Photos show a half-order that was shared). We’ll be back for sure.
No matter what any of us ordered it was great. Terrific peach cobbler that used cinnamon sugar pie crust strips to go along with the peach filling. Perfect sweetness. My parting thought was why hadn't I gone here sooner.
